                 Obituary of Richard Remington Stargel
                                            1850- 1921

In Memory of R.R. Stargel

The subject of this sketch was born in Lumpkin County, November 27, 1850 and departed this life on June 19, 1921, married Sarah E. Bryan on December 11, 1874. Was the father of nine children, seven of which are still living. Joined the Baptist Church in December 25, 1875 and was a consistant member up to the tme of his death. While he was unassuming and not hasty in making a show, yet he was well versed in the Holy Scripture and had the material prepared for a book, which if he had lived to have it published would have been both interesting and instructive. But instead of this the grfeat Father of all blessings to call him to a higher, and purer and noble life above, for in the midst of Earth's trials and the weakness of human flesh,  one could find in him the evidence of having passed from death into life, and looking forward to the day of dissolution which would release him from the pain and anxiety and trouble of life,  and bring him face to face with the King of Righteousness who no doubt bid him welcome to th great feast of good things held up in store for them that love the Lord. After all while it brings sorrow and sadness to those who are left behind it is far better to depart and be with Christ. I think of the score of relatives and loved ones who has preceeded him to the glory land and of all the joyous reunion as he entered the golden gate of the Celestial City, welcomed by all theses redeemed ones and to hear from him who redeeme him "Enter thou into the joys of the Lord"

" Rest on dear brother, rest
From life's burdens thou art free
And in the land where all are blest
Some glad day our eyes shall see
When from the streets of shining gold
We'll sing the songs thatne'er grow old
And walk amidst the beauties there
Not disturbed by worldly care "
